Clips from Malèna

"He never wants to see his daughter Malena again."
Malèna
"And the dentist's wife kicked him out of his house."
Malèna
"That dragon of a wife will drag him into court!"
Malèna
"What's the dentist got to do with it, poor guy?"
Malèna
"Malena's the whore! She should be taken to court!"
Malèna
"That Lt Cadei seemed like such a gentleman."
Malèna
"How could he get mixed up in this?"
Malèna
"Everyone knows she's a home wrecker."
Malèna
"The lieutenant was asking for it!"
Malèna
"She's not from here. She forgets where she is."
Malèna
"Will they go to court?"
Malèna
"Of course, she could go to jail. He's a married man!"
Malèna
"The dentist needed three stitches in his head."
Malèna
"But the dentist swore at the soldier first."
Malèna
"That's insulting an officer."
Malèna
"We'll all end up in court!"
Malèna
"While we were watching her caboose"
Malèna
"the lieutenant and the dentist were riding the train!"
Malèna
"She's either going to the lawyer's or the notary's."
Malèna
"Sure, but what will she do with two old men like them?"
Malèna
"- Excuse me. - Come in."
Malèna
"Can I help you?"
Malèna
"May I speak to Lawyer Centorbi?"
Malèna
"Please have a seat."
Malèna
"Sir, it's the widow Scordia!"
Malèna
"Can it be true? Beautiful Madonna!"
Malèna
"Have her come in."
Malèna
"Please sit down."
Malèna
"Charmed."
Malèna
"We now continue with the testimony of Maddalena Bonsignore,"
Malèna
"the widow Scordia,"
Malèna
"called Malena."
Malèna
"She could get two years in prison."
Malèna
"Everything will be fine, trust me."
Malèna
"You're accused of involving Dr Gaspare Cusimano"
Malèna
"in a secret and amorous relationship"
Malèna
"aimed at the breaking up of his family."
Malèna
"Do you know Dr Cusimano?"
Malèna
"Yes."
Malèna
"Are you or have you ever been his fiancee?"
Malèna
"Absolutely not."
Malèna
"How could I be engaged to a married man?"
Malèna
"Why was Cusimano, at that unusual hour"
Malèna
"on his way to your house?"
Malèna
"I don't know."
Malèna
"Had he been in your company on previous evenings?"
Malèna
"Yes, once."
Malèna
"Where?"
Malèna
"At my house."
Malèna
"Jumped right in, the dentist did. He looks stupid, but..."
Malèna
"How long did he stay?"
Malèna
"Not long."
Malèna
"What did you do?"
Malèna
"He brought me some medicine for my father."
Malèna
"If it was for your father, why did he bring it to you?"
Malèna
"I don't know."
Malèna
"What did you do after he gave you the medicine?"
Malèna
"He said goodbye and left."
Malèna
"Then why"
Malèna
"has Cusimano, a reputable professional,"
Malèna
"who, five years ago,"
Malèna
"had the honour of extracting one of Il Duce's teeth"
Malèna
"publicly declare that he is your fiance?"
Malèna
"He made that up."
Malèna
"I had nothing to do with it."
Malèna
"Your husband's crazy."
Malèna
"What kind of relationship did you have with Lt Cadei?"
Malèna
"I'm a widow."
Malèna
"My business and that of Lt Cadei"
Malèna
"are no concern of the law."
Malèna
"All right."
Malèna
"Did you know that, as a result of these affairs"
Malèna
"Lt Cadei was transferred to Albania?"
Malèna
"One down."
Malèna
"And before his departure, he was questioned in judicial inquiry."
Malèna
"Clerk."
Malèna
"He declared to have encountered the widow Scordia only twice"
Malèna
"in her home"
Malèna
"and to have had no amorous relationship"
Malèna
"considering their relationship "just a casual friendship.""
Malèna
"Son of a bitch."
Malèna
"Lt Cadei was received by my client"
Malèna
"and she makes no secret about having had for him"
Malèna
"certain feelings."
Malèna
"But unlike the married Cusimano"
Malèna
"who was, let's face it, guilty"
Malèna
"of a pre-senile dimming of the senses"
Malèna
"of an intoxicating kaleidoscope of desires..."
Malèna
"What's he saying?"
Malèna
"Unlike the family man Cusimano,"
Malèna
"Cadei is..."
Malèna
"...and was"
Malèna
"a bachelor!"
Malèna
"Clever, that lawyer."
Malèna
"He's a bachelor himself."
Malèna
"Careful investigation of the facts tell us, therefore"
Malèna
"that the Scordia woman committed no other crime"
Malèna
"than that of being ill-fated,"
Malèna
"alone"
Malèna
"and beautiful."
Malèna
"Here is her crime:"
Malèna
"her beauty!"
Malèna
"And from here, the envy,"
Malèna
"the lies,"
Malèna
"the disgrace"
Malèna
"that have deprived her even of a father's trust!"
Malèna
"And yet, she herself is still in silent agony,"
Malèna
"in faraway East Africa."
Malèna
"In the beating heart of our argument"
Malèna
"is an audacious, but nonetheless valid, thesis,"
Malèna
"which asks just one question:"
Malèna
"Can a young woman"
Malèna
"after the odyssey of a widowhood endured for the love of country"
Malèna
"hope for protection in the shelter of a new life?"
Malèna
"Does she have the right to yearn for, and to write"
Malèna
"a new ending to her own love story?"
Malèna
"Your Honour,"
Malèna
"the citizens of Castelcuto reply:"
Malèna
""Yes!""
Malèna
"Will Cusimano leave me alone now?"
Malèna
